The Prayer

Beginning with a prayer made at the age of sixteen, the narrator revisits the desire for love and the experience of being wanted or rejected. Hope in a relationship gradually becomes a searching examination of the self: if changing one’s appearance, habits or way of life cannot guarantee acceptance, what remains to hold on to? An intimate monologue connects memories across the years, revealing the same wish beneath each attempt at reinvention: to be loved and accepted.
